Why do VoIP Calling Card make more cents/sense?
Regular calling card companies carry a lot more cost on the basis that they need a connection directly to the Public Switch Telephone Network, which involves more expensive switch, commitments to the Telco for often unused capacity on a PRi line, and a wholesale long distance rate based on the Telco’s wholesale rates.
VoIP enables a cost effective soft switch to be deployed with the necessary software to run a VoIP business, but there is no need for the PRi lines, because the calls are being routed over IP from an internet telephony service provider who has already purchased the connections to the PSTN and will convert the calls from analogue to digital and send it over the internet for you. The IP conversion has a cost, but it’s more economical than purchasing unused capacity per month in most cases.
Once the system is set-up, the VoIP Caling Card Provider can configure several telecommunication provider long distance routes to get the best rates. These carriers are all configured via IP without any physical gateway or purchase of lines- its just simply based on the minutes you use through their platform. Much easier than the traditional Telco, and much more cost effective.
